Sam Poo Kong Temple, Semarang
Hi there, in this opportunities I want to tell you one of places that I have visited last school vacation with my family. Our main destination was Borobudur Temple. But we also visit many places around. Such as Lawang Sewu, Prambanan Temple, and the place that I want to tell you, Sam Poo Kong Temple. Sam Poo Kong Temple is one of tourist attraction located in Semarang, on Simongan Raya Street, Central Java. It is the oldest Chinese temple there. We went there in our way to Yogyakarta. The place is really easy to approach. If you went there from Lawang Sewu, the famous destination in Semarang, like I did on the trip, it only took about 10 minutes with a car.
This temple believed to be placed where Admiral Cheng Ho stayed. Cheng Ho is a Chinese explorer, mariner, diplomat and originally born in a Chinese Muslim family. If you enter this temple, you will directly see the huge Admiral Cheng Ho statue formed from gold color. Red and yellow ornament dominate this temple. So it makes you feel you are visiting China, though you are in Semarang. The main building is Stone Building. It located behind the Admiral Cheng Ho statue. The Stone Building is believed to be place where Admiral Cheng Ho and his crew landed. In the 1700s, the landslide screw up this temple. Then, citizens rebuild and make it as to honoring Admiral Cheng Ho and for their pray.
Sam Poo Kong also has a few more temple, such as Thao Tee Kong Temple. This building is place for begged to be blessed and safeness by Earth God. The second building is Kyai Juru Mudi, it's the place where Admiral Cheng Ho's helmsman buried. And the third is Kyai Jangkar. In this building, it's store the real Admiral Cheng Ho's ship anchor wrapped by red cloth. Last but not least, Kyai and Nyai Tumpeng. Place for store foodstuff and groceries at Admiral Cheng Ho's period.
If you like to taking some pictures, you won't regret to visit Sam Poo Kong Temple. As a ordinarily tourist attraction, Sam Poo Kong Temple also has so much spot for tourist taking picture, there is a place for visitor rent Chinese costume too. You can take some pictures in front of some magnificent temple decorated with amazing chinese ornament seems like you have vacation in China. It also has fasilities for visitors like restrooms, mushola, parking lot, information center, food court that sell many Semarang's signature dish, gift shop, and also place for rent the chinese costume.
So, if you wanna go for holiday, here, visit Semarang. There are so many tourist attraction that is really worth and has great cost to visit. One of them is Sam Poo Kong temple. With only Rp20.000 you can visit all of the temples there. But if you just want to enter the yard, Admiral Cheng Ho Statue and the hall, it only cost Rp10.000/ person, you already can see and take some picture with magnificent and amazing temple.
